An introduction to the Religion Monitor

The Bertelsmann Stiftung's RELIGION MONITOR is an instrument which looks at the issues of religion and faith to an unprecedented degree. It was developed by religious scientists, sociologists, psychologists and theologians and was first employed in 2007.

In a representative survey, 21,000 people from all continents and world religions were asked about their views on the world and the meaning of life, their religious practices and notions of God. The project will be repeated and expanded at regular intervals in order to carry out and produce an empirical study of the development of religiousness.

About your religiousness

At the end of the survey you can generate your own personal profile of religiousness and compare it to the representative results of your country.

How religious are you?

The survey takes about 20 minutes and is completely anonymous (e.g. you are not required to give any personal details). The information collected in this questionnaire will be used for research purposes only. A response to each question must be given before you advance to the next one. If you do not wish to submit an answer, please select "don't know/no answer".

If you would like more information about the Religion Monitor or would like to monitor your own religiousness long-term, you can register at the end of the survey. Your details will be treated confidentially. Please refer to our policy on data protection.
